The human body’ way to react to a threat, challenge and physical or psychological condition is stress. When a person’s comfort zone is challenged, his way of responding is through stress. The two body system that answer to stress are the Autonomic Nervous System which is responsible for the supply of smooth muscle and glands and the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis (HPA) which influences the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal glands.

Stress in turn may harm many parts of the body when it is too much. It can decrease the body’s resistance to illnesses and may result to the body losing its vital functions.

Stress shouldn’t be taken for granted. A person who is over stressed will have difficulty in doing his day-to-day activities. These are the signs of stress you should know about.

1. Physical Pain

High levels of anxiety can cause pain on people. This may be because the organs of the body aren’t functioning well when a person is stressed. Some of the physical pains that you can feel are stomach problems, ulcer, cramps, palpitations and many more. Consult your doctor if you’re experiencing too much stress and it’s affecting your everyday life.

2. Lack of Sleep

Enough sleep of at least 8-10 hours a day is needed by the body to fully function. It helps keep a person alert and motivated so when you lack sleep, you are in a bad mood and you tend to move slowly. Stress can cause you to have insomnia that’s why it’s important to address the stress to get good sleep.

3. Weight Change

Stress can definitely influence a person’s weight. It can either cause you to lose or gain weight depending on how you choose to react to stress. Watch out for your weight changes so you can consult a doctor on how to address it.

4. Mood Changes

The psyche is one of the most affected when someone is stressed out. A person who is stressed will have a bad mood and may sometimes or many times feel sensitive to all the people around him. He may snap when he feels like he can’t take it anymore. Due to this, the nerves in the body may harden and cause blockage or other forms of illnesses.

5. Falling or Thinning Hair

Falling or thinning hair can be because of hormone problems but it can also be because of stress. Stress may cause hair follicles to losen so hair falls out. Try going to a dermatologist so you can get medicine for this and go to counselling so that the doctor can help you with your stress.

6. Lack of Concentration

A lot of over thinking is involved when there is stress. The anxiety levels are so high that a person will just think all day because he can’t help it and when he isn’t able to come up with a solution he will be more stressed. You may want to try going to a therapist who can help you with techniques on how to deal with stress. One most advised stress relief is through heavy breathing.

Stress is a frequent problem for many people especially these days when everyone is busy and in a hurry. The problem is that the people affected can’t be the best versions of themselves because of this. Even if you’ve got potential, it’s different when you are stressed. Stress can hold you down and it can give you serious illnesses in the long run. Make sure you do what’s necessary to combat stress so that you can live your life fully.
